Mr. James M. Young
First Secretary
Dear
Sir,
RE: Helping to facilitate my return to Swaziland
I refer to the above matter which we discussed in our short
but in-depth meeting yesterday.
- To
facilitate my return to Swaziland while, at the same time, endeavouring to ensure
that the country moves speedily to democratic (free and fair) elections
and free of draconian laws which compromise the political, economic and
religious freedom of the individual citizen. I pointed out the fact that
since I am Amnesty International’s “prisoner of conscience” (previously
detained without trial for 33 months) I would need my return to be
officially guaranteed by King Mswati III that I shall not be harassed
and/or imprisoned without trial in any event. I have to date compromised
and sacrificed so much for my country’s tranquility and progress that I
deserved to be paid the minimum £2 million (maximum £37 million) owed me
by Lonrho plc., the Swaziland Government and/or King. The period covered
is 1984-1994 (ten years).
Upon reading the enclosed papers you will realize that the period in
question has been a mental, psychological and intellectual torture for me
and my immediate relatives and friends
e.g. I have not been able to bury my own
mother who died in September 1990.
- I strongly
urged your Government and that of Great
Britain to move away from the cold war
bunker overplayed by the Secret Services like BOSS, the CIA and MI6. We
could not be talking of a post free South Africa and it is inconceivable
that Swaziland would be expected to remain an island of oppression now
that Mozambique has had a free and fair election. I officially and kindly
request, on the side of justice, that all my (others like me) cold war
secret files so held and contained false information to be destroyed. The
point is already taken care of in the enclosed documents. For that,
together with the actions of the Swaziland Government, constitutes a very
cruel and bizarre way of wasting human intellectual resources which Africa
and Swaziland
can ill afford. No country can go forward without its own intellectuals
and business men and women contributing to its infrastructure unless we
want more Rwanda’s
in Africa which, in turn totally devalues the very
well being of mankind itself.
I pointed out that at my age and state of creativity I do not have the
time to wait. I have two young children, a girl of 9 and a boy of 6, as
well as grown up children in Swaziland.
The window of opportunity for all those children remains closed every
other day I needlessly remain here in exile. It is more than the money, it
is the principle.
- As
shown in our Major Works herein enclosed. I have new and exciting material
to publish. To that score, we agreed that my best option would be to get
in touch with my alma
matters here and in the United States.
Other things you were told off record. You will realize that in my
argument on the Lonrho case I have left my options open to go to the
Supreme Court if need be.
Thank you,
Yours Sincerely,
Clement Dumisa Dlamini
